A white paper is a document currently used by companies, non-profits, NGOs, or governments to explain a relevant topic, and present the writer as having expertise in that field. They were originally used as government reports, informing stakeholders on new policies or research, but are now also used my businesses as a marketing tool to promote innovative products and services. Their purpose is to educate and on a specific topic, give background information, introduce the problem or issue, and propose a solution.
