Working in Civil Service

Civil service jobs offer a range of benefits that can appeal to many individuals. One of the primary advantages is job security. Government positions often provide stability and tenure, reducing the risk of layoffs compared to the private sector. Additionally, civil service jobs typically offer competitive benefits packages, including comprehensive health insurance, retirement plans, and generous paid time off.

Beyond the financial perks, civil service careers can be incredibly fulfilling. Many individuals find satisfaction in knowing that their work contributes to the public good. Government jobs offer opportunities to make a positive impact on society, whether it's by protecting the environment, improving public health, or enhancing national security.

Moreover, civil service positions often provide clear career paths and opportunities for advancement. Government agencies often offer training and development programs to help employees acquire new skills and advance their careers. This can lead to a sense of growth and accomplishment.

- Federal Format for Resumes

The Federal government has specific requirements in what information should be stated in your resume and how it should be formatted. Follow the link above to see their recommendations. This link will list what items are not allowed in a resume. Applications with resumes that do not conform to their standards may lose consideration for a job.

County or City Level

General Job Board: governmentjobs.com

County or City Specific

According to the U.S. Census, there are 3,149 counties and 19,488 cities and towns in the United States. It would not be possible to list every job board for each county or city. It is recommended to go to the desired county or city website and see if they have a careers/jobs page with a job board link available to see what jobs are available in that area. State government job boards (middle box) will list some, but not all, county or city jobs. You may need to use general job boards like governmentjobs.com, linkedin, or indeed.com to find job postings as well. You can also use the search terms "[County/city name] Jobs" or "[County/City name] Careers" when using a general search engine like Google.
